A Message From Our Director
As I completed my transition moving from Chicago to Houston I had a lot of time to reflect on my life and my mental health challenges. Living in a single-parent household, being a black gay male, and suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts created a lot of traumatic experiences in my childhood to adulthood. While reflecting I took upon myself to research and find resources in my community, and I realized there was a lack of outlets for black men like myself to feel comfortable and open with discussing their mental health. From that day, I vowed to create it myself!
The Outlet Project is a platform that gives black gay men, domestic violence survivors, and men and women of color dealing with mental health obstacles a place to express and talk about their mental health. My mission is to save lives and bring awareness to mental health suicide and depression. As an organization, we’re striving to uplift families and those affected by suicide and depression through engaging in our community and local businesses!"
